25-Hour Speak Out! 04.28.2025

CUIMC Stands Up joined faculty, staff, students, and alumni from across Columbia to held a 25-hour Speak-Out from Monday, April 28th at 12pm Eastern through Tuesday, April 29th at 1pm to affirm our core values: academic freedom, student safety, human rights, protection of science, and shared governance. Inspired by the history of durational protests (most recently on the Senate floor) and by weekly speak-outs organized by CUIMC Stands Up and Morningside faculty and students on Demands of our Board of Trustees, we aim for this to be a wake-up call to everyone on our campus: we see what is happening and we refuse to be silent. 

Why: Why 25 hours? We are a global university, and the struggle for academic freedom and student safety transcends borders and time zones. We gathered throughout the night to reflect on our global commitments and stand in solidarity.
